It’s with great pleasure that I welcome you all to the pleasant city of Enschede.
The International Pianocompetition for Young Musicians has become a world-class musical event. The amazing number of applications from no less than twenty five different countries is an indication of the great enthusiasm and ambition among young piano players around the world today.

I would like to take this opportunity to express to all of you my appreciation for your courage and perseverance in coming to Enschede to take part in this competition.

The competition has been made possible with the support of many people. Sponsors, special funds, organisations that have provided subsidies and, of course, our wonderful guest families. The ArtEZ Conservatory Enschede, the Music Centre, and the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra have all contributed in making this event a success. Special thanks goes to them, because without the this competition could not take place.

The achievements in previous years show that this competition meets a real need. This unique event also contributes to the reputation of Enschede as a Musical City and it will be one of the pillars of our future ‘Music Quarter’.
I wish you all good luck, an exciting competition, and many spectacular performances.

Enschede, 0ctober 2006

On behalf of the Board of the International Piano Competition Foundation I cordially welcome you to the 2006 International Piano Competition.

The Competition has been held now for 6 years and holds a key position in the City of Enschede’s musical life alongside the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra (Orkest van het Oosten), the Nationale Reisopera, the ArtEZ Conservatory Enschede and represents a major contribution to the cultural life of our City.

The Competition offers those taking part the opportunity to play for an audience together with others also seeking to become professional performers. The Competition is only possible by the support generously given by Government grant, private donations and our many sponsors, to whom we are deeply indebted.

Our thanks are also due to the many host families who provide hospitality for our Competitors and their Companions. We also thank the Members of the International Judging Committee who have the difficult task of selecting the Winners. The Foundation is also very grateful for the help, advice and support freely given by the Muziekcentrum, PodiumTwente, the ArtEZ Conservatory Enschede and of course the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra.
